Design Process
I follow the same meticulous process for all my clients. This ensures that together we evaluate each step of the design and address all desires and concerns as we progress. It is critical that our engagement is as frequent as you need it to be. From initial discussion to final implementation, I will guide you and listen carefully to your wishes.
Step 1 : 1-3 days
Initial design consultation
The entire process begins with an informal call, providing an opportunity for me to get to know you and understand your vision for your garden.
I will then ask you to complete a questionnaire which will allow me to ascertain in more detail the style and features you wish to achieve. This will be followed by a video call so we can discuss everything together.
From this, I will create a client brief that summarises the understanding of your requirements and highlights the key elements.
Step 2 : 2 – 3 weeks
Site assesment
This is a crucial step in the design process. It allows me to assess the plot that we will be working with. It is important that I understand the environment and capture the following in an assessment and base plan.
- Site plan and measurements
- Drainage
- Soil type
- Existing planting
- Features
- Boundaries
- Structures
- Views
With this information, I can make more informed decisions and suggestions regarding the design.
Step 3 : 2 – 4 weeks
Concepts Design and Sketches
With the site assessment complete and the questionnaire returned, I begin creating 2D sketches and concepts. This helps us visualize what the garden could look like. A certain number of revisions are included depending on complexity, allowing us to share ideas, photos of themes and styles, and plants you like.
I also provide fully developed mood boards and set up meetings for feedback on the progress so we can discuss any changes you may want.
Step 4 : 2 – 4 weeks
Formal working plans
At this stage, you will be familiar with the concept, the design formalised, and I can then provide detailed working plans to facilitate the landscaping. These will include full measurements, hardscape and softscape plans, lighting plans, and planting plans. Each plan will contain every detail needed to turn the concept into reality.
I work with a network of trusted landscapers, or if you prefer, we can use your own. I can oversee the project management if required.
